Re “Horitz’s legacy of a humane liberty” (June 30):

While praising Steven Horwitz, you also include two fellow libertarians whose lives were significantly helped by public spending. Milton Friedman first worried for the government during the Great Depression because that was the only job he could get. Walter Williams lived in government-subsidized housing, and then had jobs in government that helped him with his education. Horwitz was lucky because he became moderately wealthy and had social connections, he could afford to say that people should help themselves without the government helping them. The other two, however, needed the help due to circumstances beyond their control. Such circumstances are precisely why that assistance is needed. People can run their own lives, but may at times need help. This is also true of Ayn Rand, founder of libertarianism, who became dependent on Social Security. Libertarianism is like communism: a great philosophical idea that doesn’t work in practice. data-driven “experts” who refute each of these “necessities,” supplying specific data to refute each of these claims. I guess it boils down to which dueling “experts” you believe. but when the data shows that just .0005 of the almost 600,000 COVID-related deaths are among those under 18, I have to ask, just for whom are vaccinations of “kids” a “necessity”? It’s clearly not for the children themselves. With media coverage like this, it’s no wonder Statista has just released a data graph of “Trust in Media” at 29%. compared to other developed nations; we are near the top of the list. Mass shootingsare so commonplace that Congress just shrugs off the news and goes forward with their business like nothing happened. If you look at the rationale behind Judge Benitez’s ruling, why not allow citizens to purchase fully automatic machine guns or 50 calibre machine guns that the military uses. Time to use common sense and start to reverse gun violence and mass shootings.
