The Galaxy’s playoff hopes could come down to how things go in the next two road games.

Unfortunately for the Galaxy, the stops are two of the more difficult places for the opposition to play.

City, the Galaxy are 1-5-6. Since 2015, SKC has a 5-2-4 advantage. SKC won the first meeting this season 2-0 on July 4.

“They are historically very tough places to play,” Galaxy midfielder Sebastian Lletget said. “It’s not even really about the surface or about the crowd, they are two really good teams. There is a reason why they are at the top (of the league).”

the week tied for second place in the Western Conference with Colorado. Seattle (17-7-7, 58 points) is in first place.

The Galaxy (13-11-7) is tied with Portland with 46 points, but sit in fifth place in the standings. Minnesota United is in sixth (45 points) and Vancouver is seventh (44 points).

Real Salt Lake is in eighth, one spot below the playoff line, with 42 points. LAFC is ninth with 41 points.

So after a seven-point week, with wins over Portland and Houston and Saturday’s draw with FC Dallas, the Galaxy will be faced with trying to remain above the playoff line heading into the regular-season finale Nov. 7 against Minnesota United.

“I think we are more than good enough to beat them,” Lletget said. “We just have to work on our game plan. We have to see what we can do better from this game. I don’t think it is about ability at this point, we are at the point in the season where it is who wants it more. We are in a playoff spot, but we want to secure it.”

In 2018, the Galaxy went into the final game of the season needing a win to qualify for the playoffs, but lost. The Galaxy have missed the playoffs three out of the past four seasons.

The Galaxy will depart Kansas City after the game, returning home to begin preparation for the Seattle game. The club will depart for Seattle following training Sunday. The Seattle game is at 7 p.m. Monday.

Yellow-card suspension

Defender Julian Araujo missed Saturday’s game due to yellowcard accumulation. Tonight, center back Nick DePuy will serve a one-game suspension due to yellow-card accumulation. He received his fourth yellow card in the past five games.

DePuy had started the past four games. Either Daniel Steres or Sega Coulibaly will replace him.
