LONNIE (MIKE) KIENITZ

1942 - 2022

A native California­n, Mike was a resident of Santa Monica, Riverside, and Murrieta. He was born on June 26, 1942 to Ernest and Elvira (Bea) Kienitz. Attended schools in Santa Monica, California until he entered the U.S. Air Force.

Mike met his wife, Betty, at Santa Monica College in 1960 and they were married in 1964. They lived in Riverside for 40 years and they have two daughters: Cynthia Lee Schulz and Terri Lyn Brickel. Mike served in the Air Force at March AFB for four years active duty and then 24 more years in the Air Force and Navy Reserves. He retired with a rank of Sr. Master Sergeant Air Force Reserves. He worked for over 40 years for the University of California as an electronic­s technician for various science department­s. He rose to the position of principal electronic­s tech.

Mike and Betty moved to Murrieta following retirement to be closer to family. They have four grandchild­ren: Trinity and Petra Schulz of La Jolla and Abbi and Jake Otjen of Murrieta.

Mike was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease about five years ago. He left this life on June 6, 2022. He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Betty and his daughter and son-inlaw Cynthia Schulz and Eric Schulz of La Jolla, and daughter Terri Brickel and son-in-law Bob Melville of Murrieta. Also surviving him are grandchild­ren Abbi Otjen, Jake Otjen, Trinity Schulz and Petra Schulz. He is also survived by his brother Eric Kienitz and wife Mary and two nephews, Josh and Jerry Kienitz and many great nieces and a great nephew and longtime friends.

There are two services for Mike. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Temecula United Methodist Church, 42690 Margarita Rd., Temecula. A military honors committal service will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.
