Verlander, Tucker lead visiting Astros past Yankees

Justin Verlander pitched four-hit ball over seven innings, Kyle Tucker hit a three-run homer and the Houston Astros beat the Yankees 3-1 Friday night to stop New York’s 15-game home winning streak.

The major league-best Yankees (52-19) lost for just the fourth time in their last 23 games overall.

Verlander (9-3) averaged 95.5 mph with his fastball, up from 94.8 mph coming in during his first season since Tommy John surgery. The 39-year-old righthande­r struck out three and walked one, lowering his ERA to 2.22.

New York got its run in the sixth when Giancarlo Stanton hit an oppositefi­eld drive into the right field second deck for the second night in a row, his 16th home run this season.

Luis Severino (4-2) escaped two-on jams in the fourth and fifth then allowed Alex Bregman’s oneout double in the sixth. Severino walked Yordan Alvarez and threw a first-pitch fastball that Tucker drove into the right-field seats for his 14th home run this year. METS 5, MARLINS 3 » Francisco Lindor homered, doubled and drove in four runs to lead New York at Miami.

Mark Canha also went deep and Taijuan Walker pitched six-plus innings of three-run ball for the NL East leaders. Walker (6-2) allowed eight hits, walked two and struck out five.

All three runners scored on Lindor’s bases-loaded double in the sixth that gave New York a 5-2 lead.

Voth, normally a reliever, went three innings. He gave up an RBI double to Jake Burger in the second for Chicago’s only hit.

Joey Krehbiel (3-3) worked 2 1/3 perfect innings before Bryan Baker and Cionel Pérez each got four outs. Jorge López pitched the ninth for his 13th save, helping the Orioles win their third straight and fourth in five games.

BLUE JAYS 9, BREWERS 4 » Alejandro Kirk went 4 for 4 and homered for the third straight game before leaving with a bruised left hand in the seventh inning of Toronto’s win at Milwaukee.

Alek Manoah (9-2) pitched 6 2/3 strong innings, Cavan Biggio homered and Matt Chapman delivered a bases-loaded double for the Blue Jays.

Manoah struck out six and allowed five hits, three walks and two runs.

Charlie Blackmon’s runscoring fielder’s choice was the difference for the Rockies, who bounced back from a three-game sweep in Miami.

After missing 43 games with a right quad strain, Olivares belted homers to left field in his first two at-bats.

Greinke allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts. He sat down the first nine batters before Tony Kemp hit a leadoff single in the fourth. Seth Brown hit a two-out RBI single that scored Kemp.
