Garey Avenue to close for L Line work
Railroad crossing to be closed for 4 days
The railroad crossing at Garey Avenue in Pomona will be closed four days starting Friday as work on the L Line light-rail extension continues.
The firm building the project, Kiewit-Parsons, will have crews replacing the existing Metrolink track and repaving the area. The work is scheduled to continue through Tuesday, Aug. 2, according to the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority.
The closure will include the entrance to the Metrolink Station parking lot on Garey Avenue. Access to the parking lot will remain open from Fulton Road and Arrow Highway to Pine Street.
The work will require a full closure of Garey Avenue between Arrow Highway and Bonita Avenue, the Construction Authority said in a news release. Towne Avenue will serve as the main detour route. Other detour options include Arrow Highway and Bonita Avenue.
Vehicle and pedestrian access at north and south of Garey Avenue within the closure area will be monitored, officials said. Only residents and employees will be allowed through.
Another closure at the railroad crossing is expected later this year to complete the crossing reconstruction for the new light-rail system, the news release said.
The Construction Authority is building a 9.1-mile extension of the LLine (formerly Gold Line) from Azusa to Pomona. Work began in July 2020 and the extension is scheduled for completion as early as 2025. Plans to continue the line to Claremont and across the county line into Montclair, however, have been stalled by higher costs and lack of funds.
