Las Vegas man arrested after home invasions, stolen Amazon van, wild pursuit
A Las Vegas man was arrested after he committed two daytime home invasion robberies in Riverside, then stole an Amazon delivery truck and led authorities on a chase throughout the city, Riverside police said Tuesday.
The saga began Monday just after 5 p.m. when Riverside police were alerted to two home invasion robberies at a mobile home park in the 2900 block of Atlanta
Avenue, the Riverside Police Department said in a news release. While responding, the officers were informed that the suspect carjacked an Amazon delivery van as he fled the mobile home park, police said.
Through the use of GPS tracking, police located the stolen van, which had crashed into parked cars along Arlington Avenue, authorities said. Once the officers spotted the van at Arlington and Victoria avenues, the suspect evaded them and led a pursuit on city streets towards the 60 Freeway,
officials said.
The suspect then crossed the median along Martin Luther King Boulevard and crashed into a car at Canyon Crest Drive, police said. The van charged along and drove east on the 60 Freeway before he intentionally crashed into three occupied cars west of Day Street, authorities said.
The suspect then ditched the van and ran across westbound traffic and after a failed attempt to climb the tall freeway barrier wall, the suspect was taken into custody, the Police Department.
The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Quintin Jarnall Larks, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, home invasion robbery, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, reckless evading of police and driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, the Police Department said. He was being held on $1 million bail.
No serious injuries were reported to any of the victims who were attacked, robbed, and struck by Larks, police said.
Significant damage was caused to several of the cars he struck while fleeing, officials said.
“This suspect posed a significant threat to our community,” said Captain Chad Milby. “The composure and professionalism our officers, field supervisors and dispatchers performed during this intense and chaotic situation not only led to the apprehension of a very dangerous criminal, but demonstrated the high level of training our department goes through to keep Riverside safe.”
