Sit-down meals return to some centers after 2-year hiatus

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, senior centers in many communitie­s offered hot lunches five days a week. Because of the pandemic and resulting restrictio­ns, centers suspended sit-down lunches in mid-March 2020 and began offering meals seniors may take home. Many centers are still offering packaged meals, though some have returned to sit-down meals.

Following are the hours and days when centers whose menus were printed on this page before the pandemic are offering meals.

Family Service Associatio­n, which provided hot meals at various centers, distribute­s weekly meal packages of five frozen meals, plus milk, bread and fruit, on Wednesdays at centers including the following: 10-11 a.m., Rancho Cucamonga, 11200 Base Line Road, 909-477-2780; 10 a.m.noon, Upland, 250 N. Third Ave., 909-981-4501.

These meals are for those who participat­e in the senior lunch program and are 60 or older, and supply is limited. Others who need meals may contact Family Service Associatio­n at 951-342-3057.

The Ontario Senior Center, at 225 E. B St., offers sitdown meals 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For informatio­n, call 909-3952021.

Rialto’s Grace Vargas Senior Center, at 1411 S. Riverside Ave., also offers sitdown meals 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Suggested donation is $3 for those 60 and older and $9.75 for guests younger than 60.

Intervale Senior Services distribute­s seven packaged meals to participan­ts in the senior lunch program 10:30 a.m.-noon Wednesdays at the San Dimas Senior Citizen and Community Center, 201 E. Bonita Ave., San Dimas. The program is at capacity, but anyone in need may call 626-9602995.

In Claremont, where boxed lunches have been available, sit-down lunches resumed June 6 at the Joslyn Senior Center, 660 N. Mountain Ave., and will resume July 18 at Blaisdell Park, 440 S. College Ave. Lunch is served 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday at the Joslyn center and will be served at noon at Blaisdell. In Pomona, where packaged lunches had been distribute­d at Washington Park and Palomares Park senior centers, home-delivered meals are now offered for Pomona residents who are 60 or older. For informatio­n, call 909-620-2324.

The city of Montclair Senior Nutrition Program has resumed in-person lunches, served 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays at 5111 Benito St., Montclair. Doors open at 10:30 am for sign in, coffee, tea and socializin­g. Suggested donation is $3 for age 60 and older. There is a $6 fee for guests younger than 60. Menus are available for pickup.
