Concert will feature songs about love, romance

The Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band will present “A Celebratio­n of Love,” a concert featuring hit songs about love and romance, 7:30 p.m. Monday in Gardiner W. Spring Auditorium on the campus of Chaffey High School, 1250 N. Euclid Ave., Ontario.

Admission is free, and before the concert, the Woodwind Celebratio­n ensemble will play at 7 p.m. in the lobby, where compliment­ary coffee and cookies will be available.

The concert will feature several soloists, including guest artist Jana “Gigi” Garner, who has been singing with a variety of music groups from contempora­ry church music to choirs to rock bands to jazz, swing and blues. Her musical career also includes composing and producing short songs and videos for meditation, as well as original blues tunes, according to a news release.

Garner is a former voice-over artist and radio announcer and is co-founder of the T Street Band, which performs a mix of blues, classic rock, soul, funk and ballads. She also sings with the Music Masters Big Band in Upland, performing jazz, swing, jive and torch songs from the 1920s through the 1960s.

In the Show Band concert. she will sing “Cheek to Cheek,” “Orange Colored Sky,” “Cry Me a River” and “Feeling Good.”

Other featured soloists will be Pat Arnold, the band’s assistant director; trumpeter Steve Collins; and dancer Kathy Soderlund. Arnold will play a tenor saxophone solo on the ballad “Love Dance” and will be the featured vocalist on “Angel Eyes.” Collins will play “Misty,” and Soderlund will dance to “Tango de Amor” and “Bésame

Mucho.”

Also on the program are “Come Rain or Come Shine,” “Burt Bacharach: Two Songs of Love” and “Wade in the Water.”

Narrators will be Lynne Kennedy, Chaffey Joint Union High School District’s executive director of equity and inclusion and mayor pro tem of Rancho Cucamonga; and Michael Kennedy, attorney and senior partner at Estelle and Kennedy.

The Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band, founded in 1985, has members from at least two dozen communitie­s throughout Southern California. Adult musicians and students are invited to participat­e. The band rehearses 7-9 p.m. Mondays in the Jack Mercer Band Room on the Chaffey High School campus.
