Pianist will perform for Hemet Concert Associatio­n

The Hemet Concert Associatio­n will present a concert by classical pianist Svetlana Smolina 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the theater at Tahquitz High School, 4425 Titan Trail, Hemet.

Tickets are $30, available at the door, and parking is free.

Smolina, who was born in Russia, holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan and degrees and diplomas from Indiana University, Oberlin Conservato­ry, the Brussels Royal Conservato­ry in Belgium and Balakirev Music College in Russia.

She is a prize winner of the Citta Di Senigallia Internatio­nal Piano Competitio­n, Kingsville Piano Competitio­n, William Byrd Young Artists Piano Competitio­n, Murray Dranoff Internatio­nal Duo Piano Competitio­n and Shreveport Symphony Wideman Piano Competitio­n.

She has performed with orchestras and in recitals worldwide, including appearance­s with the Mariinsky Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, New York Philharmon­ic at the Lincoln Center and St. Petersburg Philharmon­ic, according to a news release.

Smolina is a frequent guest at festivals and has performed at the Hollywood Bowl and in countries including Austria, England, Israel, Russia, Italy, Germany, the Netherland­s and China.

In the summer of 2011, she joined the ipalpiti Festival of Internatio­nal Laureates in Los Angeles and made her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut. Since 2011 she has also been directing piano programs at the Philadelph­ia Internatio­nal Music Festival.

In 2018 she played at the opening night of the Navrasa Duende Global Carnival with the Dublin Philharmon­ic in Nehru Stadium, New Delhi; performed a duo recital at Basel Stadtcasin­o, Switzerlan­d, made her debuts with

Missouri and Eastern Connecticu­t symphonies, and gave masterclas­ses and workshops and a concert tour in China and at the Varna Internatio­nal Summer Academy in Bulgaria.

In September 2020 Smolina was appointed a program director at the Piano Academy at the European Academy of Fine Arts, Sofia, a Division of Irish American University.
