Manufacturer of iron supplement expanding to Riverside County

-

A biotech firm based in Nebraska and Colorado has a new home in the West, expanding its manufacturing complex to Jurupa Valley, according to city officials.

Colorado Biolabs Inc., a pharmaceutical company founded in 1997, has moved into the Bellegrave Business Park at 10293 Birtcher Drive.

City officials including

City Manager Rod Butler, Assistant City Manager Mike Flad and Community Development Director Joe Perez met with Colorado Biolabs in the first half of 2023.

The move into Jurupa Valley was guided, in part, by California’s GO-BIZ department, which incentivizes company expansions and hiring with tax-saving grants.

“Their decision to establish a presence here is a testament to our county’s dedication to innovation and economic growth,” Riverside County Supervisor Karen Spiegel said in the news release. “This move promises significant local benefits, including job creation and community development, and reflects Colorado Biolabs’ commitment to progress and our county’s supportive environment for business and technological advancements. We eagerly anticipate their investment’s positive impact on our community’s future.”

Colorado Biolabs primarily makes an iron supplement called heme iron polypeptide under its brand name Proferrin. The drug is used to improve or maintain normal iron levels, especially for people who suffer from iron deficiency anemia.

The company will add at least 20 jobs in its new facility. Those jobs include technical roles such as validation chemist, microbiologist and R&D technician; senior directors of quality, operations and supply chain; plus a buyer, operators and material handlers.

Colorado Biolabs also expects to have internship opportunities, a city representative told us. “The county will be connecting Colorado Biolabs with partners at UCR, Calbaptist and other higher education institution partners.”

According to the company’s Linkedin page, it has a manufacturing facility in Cozad, Nebraska. It employs 19 between its facilities in Lafayette, Colorado, and Cozad.
