CBU women put on a show for record crowd

Filipa Barros, Chloe Webb and the California Baptist women’s basketball team put on a show for a record Education Day crowd at the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center on Thursday morning.

Barros had 15 points, 13 rebounds and four assists, and Webb had 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Lancers continued their exceptiona­l season with a 7555 rout of UT Rio Grande Valley in a Western Athletic Conference game before 4,417 at the CBU campus arena.

Nae Nae Calhoun added 13 points and six assists and Khloe Lemon had 12 points as CBU improved to 15-2 overall and 7-1 in the WAC.

The Lancers took control early with a 13-0 run during a five minute stretch of the first two quarters in which UTRGV went 0 for 11 from the field.

The Lancers face Stephen F. Austin (13-6, 7-1) today at 1 p.m.

Hunter Goodrick had 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the the Lancers at Edinburg, Texas.

Brantly Stevenson had 11 points and Yvan Ouedraogo and Kendal Coleman each had 10 for CBU (12-7, 5-3 WAC), which plas Stephen F. Austin today in Nacogdoche­s, Texas.

UC SAN DIEGO 66, UC RIVERSIDE 65 >>

Bryce Pope scored 15 points as the host Tritons improved to 7-1 in the Big West Conference. Kyle Owens scored 19 points for UCR (8-13, 3-6) which plays host to Long Beach State today.

OREGON STATE 83, ARIZONA 80 >>

Jordan Pope made a 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Beavers upset the No. 9 Wildcats in Corvallis.

Pope scored a careerhigh 31 points and made four second-half 3-pointers, the last a 22-footer from the left wing over KJ

Lewis as time time expired.

Pelle Larson made two free throws for Arizona (14-5, 5-3) to tie it at 80 with 11.2 seconds left. Oregon State (10-9, 2-6) elected not to call a timeout, trusting Pope to deliver on the final shot.

Caleb Love led Arizona with 23 points.

SOUTH CAROLINA 76, LSU 70 >>

Bree Hall made a goahead 3-pointer with 1:14 remaining, and the topranked Gamecocks remained the nation’s only undefeated team by beating the defending national champion Tigers in Baton Rouge.

Chloe Kitts scored 14 points for South Carolina (18-0, 6-0), which beat LSU (18-3, 5-2) for the 15th straight time and snapped the Tigers’ 29-game home winning streak.

Aneesah Morrow had 16 points and 13 rebounds for LSU. Angel Reese had 15 points and eight rebounds but fouled out with 4:02 left and the Tigers up 6765 lead.
