Joseph Terrence (Terry) Moynihan, 84, of Riverside California, passed away on January 8, 2024 after a year long illness. Terry was born on October 11, 1939 to Delima and Joseph Moynihan in Seattle, Washington. He was the eldest of two brothers, Michael “Mick” and James “Jim”. He grew up in Seattle and attended local schools until he joined the Navy in 1962. He was assigned to the Aircraft carrier USS Hornet and toured the West Pacific and Vietnam. After his discharge, he returned to Seattle to finish his college education at the University of Washington. Later he attended Gonzaga Law School and graduated in 1973. Terry moved to Southern California in the 1980's and eventually settled in Riverside where he began his estate planning law practice and started his own law firm in the 1990’s. Terry met his wife Barbara in 1989 and they were married the following year. Terry and Barbara had a great life together! They enjoyed camping, fishing, and hiking and particularly spending long weekends exploring Southern Utah where they kept their trailer. They also made many trips to the Pacific Northwest and Western Pennsylvania to visit family. Terry loved his family, work, and golf. He continued to work at his office after he became ill and at home when he could no longer make it there. He truly missed golf and his golf buddies.

Terry had three children with his first wife, Catherine Dols, who were all born in Seattle, Washington: Michele Lynn Angel, Scott Anthony Moynihan, of whom both preceded him in death in 2023 and 1995, respectively, and Shannon Marie Moynihan (Arthur Torelli). He has one step-son William Mortell (Marcia Mortell) and an adopted daughter, Elian (Mimi) Ortiz. Terry has five grandchildren, Kyle Moynihan, Adriana Angel, Billy Mortell, Caitlyn Mortell, and Scott Torelli; and one great grandson, Vincent Angel. Terry was involved in the community – he was a member of the Rotary Club of Riverside (past president). He was a board member of Riverside Recovery Resources, Riverside Meals on Wheels, and Evergreen Cemetery. He also belonged to the Estate Planning Council of Riverside County. Terry’s passing will be felt by so many in the Riverside community. He had many friends and colleagues and touched the lives of many others by his support and listening. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery with military honors – 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518 – on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 1:00PM.
