The Huskies advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the second straight season under Stone and will play host to La Serna tonight.

“A lot of us are pumped up and want to make it really far in CIF,” Williammensah said. “This game was really hectic and I think it will translate well for us going forward.”

Nola Vanderfin and Claire Roybal scored the first two goals but it wasn’t enough as Yucaipa (11-7-3) ends its season with backto-back losses.

“It hurts,” Yucaipa coach Eric Corona said. “You look at it and say, ‘How’d they lose?’”

Allison Shreve, who assisted on Yucaipa’s first goal in the 11th minute, left on a stretcher in an ambulance near the 80th minute after hitting the turf and sustaining a severe elbow injury which required attention from paramedics.

“I think we were just shocked and concerned for her because she was playing so well when it happened,” Corona said. “She means a lot of us. She’s one of our key players.”

Shreve’s early work on the left side set up Vanderfin, who took a clean touch, spun, shot and scored the opening goal for the visitors.

Yucaipa absorbed pressure and found a second goal 2 minutes into the second half on a counterattack, as Vanderfin beat her defender and crossed the ball toward the near post, where Chino Hills goalkeeper Emma Calvillo went to the ground too early and fumbled it in the path of Roybal to clean up.

“After Claire got the second goal I was thinking, ‘2-0 is the most dangerous lead in sports’ and I was still uneasy,” said Corona, whose team has lost 3-2 in the first round of the playoffs each of the last two seasons.

Stirred into action, William-mensah worked the ball into the final third before laying it off to Marianne Tarin, who blasted it through the hands of Yucaipa goalkeeper Mia Mares for the Huskies’ first goal.

With Yucaipa’s defensive attention on Williammensah, Chino Hills’ Regan Ramirez exploited space in the middle and after collecting a loose ball, had time to take a touch before scoring the equalizer in the 61st minute.

Both teams hit the frame of the goal in the minutes leading up to Shreve’s injury, and the match resumed after a 20plus minute stoppage.

Chino Hills finally grabbed the lead in the 77th minute when William-mensah headed in an inch-perfect corner kick from Sofia Bizarro.

“We weren’t going to lose in our first CIF game on home field so we had a lot of energy today,” William-mensah said.
