3 seek Pomona council District 4 seat

- By Mercedes Cannon-tran mcannontran@scng.com

Pomona City Councilmember Elizabeth Ontiveros-cole will face two challengers as she seeks to keep the District 4 seat she has occupied since 2016.

Chará Swodeck, who challenged Ontiveros-cole in 2020, and newcomer Guillermo Gonzalez are taking on the incumbent in the March 5 presidential primary election.

Ontiveros-cole was removed from her council position in 2018 due to pension issues following her retirement from Pomona Unified School District. She was reinstated after a twoweek absence.

We reached out to all of the candidates and asked them the same questions. Below are their responses, edited for length to conform to required word liits.

Top three concerns for Pomona:
My priorities are bringing in new business to the City of Pomona and maintaining the current businesses, creating new jobs for our residents, so they can work in their own city. It can be done, I want to be part of that vision. I would like to see more first-time home buyers in Pomona, rather then rent. Pride of ownership is what our residents need.
Two improvements you want to focus on:
We need to find a better solution to homelessness on our streets. The Hope For Home Shelter needs a better approach to bring in more homeless for relief, safety, a better life and programs to get them back on their feet, such as job training and job placement. Classes should be utilized in the Hope For Home Shelter to gain selfrespect
