FINAL DEVELOPMENTS
The background is almost complete and averages four layers. Try not to overwork the brushstrokes. They should be loose, fast and open to allowing burnt sienna to “leak” through. I often paint the backgrounds upside down for easy access to the surface and utilizing the right side of my brain (the non-emotional response to thinking)—in other words avoid careful, calculated thinking. Develop the foreground to anchor your subject but not fussy detail.
