My Inspiration
I have been painting the Our Earth series called Ridges for the last couple of years. I began painting this series inspired by the views I saw of our earth from the sky, through the clouds, during my many travels. As the climate crisis is a phenomenon that I have always been passionate about, I feel the need to use my artistic expression to build awareness about Our Earth and the environmental issues like; the water crisis, global warming and destruction of natural habitats by human error that threaten the world today. Reminding mankind to get together to work toward saving our earth makes it a safer place to live for future generations.
My Design Strategy
Since I work mostly from my imagination, the only thing I knew about this painting when I started working on it was my color palette. As I began laying the colors it all came to together naturally on the canvas. The design that came to my mind was hues of blue and some greys merged with white. I worked with the soft blues of the aquamarine blue, the serene white, the dark thalo blue, pastel oranges to add some color and energy. I wanted to draw the viewer’s attention by creating a movement with color and adding few areas of interest with some intricate texture. I used darker shades to create the depth in the painting.
My Working Process
This painting is prepared with acrylic paint using the layering and pouring technique. I lay the first layer of paint that is thinned with some water then I wait a few hours and return to add another layer of paint. Some manipulation with the brush creates the desired movement I want to capture.
I added some more paint lightly mixed with water to create the texture. Then
I came back to add the last layer of the pastel colored orange to draw the viewer’s eyes to the focal point. Finally, I used a small brush to add the final details.
