A Painter’s Journey

Part 6 – A Year of Light

-

Introducing the latest addition to Raymar’s line of watercolor panels. Raymar’s new rough watercolor panels are crafted with Fabriano Artistico 140lb paper in traditional white. The mould-made paper is mounted to Raymar’s rigid ACM panels (aluminum composite material) with a conservator’s grade ph neutral adhesive. The result is an archival watercolor support that does not warp or buckle.

Fabriano has been famous for its fine art papers since 1264 and was the choice of Michelangelo. This exceptional Italian paper is a natural warm white without any optical brighteners. The textured surface allows for loose, expressive painting and speckled effects. The surface is ideal for watercolor and versatile for use with tempera, gouache, pastel, acrylic, ink, charcoal and graphite.

Mounting watercolor art can be a difficult and time consuming process. With Raymar’s new watercolor panels, artists have more time for painting. And with more sizes available than watercolor pads or sheets, art is limitless on a Raymar panel.

Lasting Art Lives on Raymar.

This watercolor panel is the ultimate time-saver. There is no need to stretch, tape or staple the paper to a board. In the field, I take the panel out of my backpack and begin drawing on it right away.

Using wet-in-wet technique boldly, I layer colors in the foreground. The paper’s sizing is perfect to push colors around smoothly. The durable surface also takes scratching and lifting without any damage to the paper.

While the foreground dries, I lay down the wash in the background. Even with large amounts of water, the paper stays completely flat on the sturdy panel with no warping, making it possible to paint all the way to the edge.

I finish by adding details. The paper’s superior absorption allows for quick drying between layers and each color is clean without a muddy look. With no embossed watermark, no color or brushstroke is compromised in the finished painting.
