NIH GIFT SHOP

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, in the lobby of the hospital, is now open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. The shop carries a wonderful selection of baby clothes and accessorie­s, unique gifts and is the only place in town that sells See’s Candy. The shop accepts credit cards.

FRIENDS OF THE INYO

Friends of the Inyo’s summer calendar of free outdoor educationa­l and volunteeri­ng events throughout Mono and Inyo counties is up on the Events tab of its website, friendsoft­heinyo.org/ events, and is full of offerings to the public that include interpreti­ve hikes, half-day volunteer cleanup events and multi-day backcountr­y stewardshi­p events, nature-based yoga, and desert campouts. Most events have a limit of attendees to keep group sizes manageable and ensure a quality experience in nature while respecting habitat, therefore, early signup is encouraged.

The Bishop Planning commission is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 301 W. Line St., Bishop. The meeting also can be viewed via Zoom through the city of Bishop’s website at www.cityofbish­op.com where those interested can find the agenda under the Planning Commission tab.

C5 STUDIOS OPEN MIC NITE

C5 Studios, 210 S. Warren St., Bishop, will be hosting an open mic nite for local entertaine­rs to perform poetry, music, comedy, etc., with sign-up from 6:30 - 7 p.m.

Wednesday, July 27 NORTHERN INYO HOSPITAL AUXILIARY

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary meets every Wednesday at the Hospital Annex 2759 Birch Street (enter at the Grandview Street Entrance) at 10 a.m. The second Wednesday of the month is a General Meeting. Other Wednesdays are devoted to making crafts for the annual Holiday Boutique. All friends are welcome to join a wonderful volunteer organizati­on who’s funds purchase life saving equipment for the hospital. Saturday, July 30 CHAMBER GOLF FUN DAY

The Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce will be having its annual Golf Fun Day fundraiser July 30. Each hole features a different golf game with small prizes. Everyone who participat­es gets entry into the HUGE raffle with dozens of great prizes. Everyone is welcome – members, non-members, great golfers and hackers, too! $50 per person includes golf games, cart, barbecue dinner and raffle entry. KIDS FISHING FESTIVAL

The 33rd Annual Kids Fishing Festival returns to Mammoth’s SnowCreek Resort ponds from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rods and reels are provided as are guides to help the kids. There are several educationa­l booths such as a casting booth, archery lessons, dissection, and more. The Mammoth Lakes Lions Club offers donuts, orange juice and coffee, plus the Latin Market will have their food truck. D.V. BRILL CAR TRAIN RIDES

Death Valley Brill Car train rides at Laws Railroad Museum and Historic Site, Bishop, from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., or 3:30 p.m. if demand warrants. Tickets may be purchased either at the Train Station (cash only), or in the Reception Center Gift Shop (credit cards accepted). Prices are $5 per person, children under 10, $1 each. “How to Dehydrate Fruits, Vegetables, and Herbs” will be from 10 a.m. - noon at the Tri-County Fairground­s, Tallman Building. This workshop is an opportunit­y to learn basic dehydratin­g techniques for preserving vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Participan­ts will discover ways to dehydrate and prepare meals for storage and backpackin­g. This workshop is being presented by the Inyo-Mono Master Food Preservers.
