The Big Pine Civic Club will be holding nominations of officers for the 2023 year, according to Sandy Lund, the club’s president.

Lund stated that this is a great opportunity to give back to the community of Big Pine by applying for an office with the club, which meets the second Monday of the month from September to June with no meetings in December.

She noted that because Big Pine is not an incorporated city, such as the city of Bishop, the Big Pine Civic Club acts as the liaison between Inyo County government officials and the community.

The Big Pine Civic Club has multiple goals. Club members diligently work to provide communication between the sheriff, county supervisor, school, the Inyo County administration, Health and Human Services and community groups as well as hosting candidates nights, Inyo Associates and guest speakers.

The civic club also supports community events, such as Christmas tree lighting, the Christmas decoration contest, Citizen of the Year, Easter Egg Hunt, Fourth of July picnic, street flags for patriotic holidays, shaved ice booth, ice cream social, town and highway cleanup, Boy and Girl State dinners and more.

The civic club also is responsible for the kiosk maintenance plus the purchasing and maintaining of the flags at the Veterans Memorial.

Lund stated that the Civic Club looks forward to adding new community members and business with the desire and vision to continue moving Big Pine into the future and respecting its rich history.

The next civic club meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, in the Big Pine Town Hall, 150 Dewey St., Big Pine.
