THOMAS MCGUIGAN

Tom was born in Boscobel, Wisconsin to Alex and Jenny McGuigan. He was the youngest of four siblings, Virgil, Betty and John, who all preceded him in death. After finishing high school he was drafted into the army where he served as a medic in Bordeaux, France. When his service was over, Tom went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, Plattevill­e, where he earned an undergradu­ate degree in elementary education. His first teaching assignment was in Baltimore, Maryland where he met his wife, Rebecca Walker. They married on August 27, 1960, and moved to California. Tom spent the majority of his career teaching at Big Pine School, where he taught 5th grade and, later in his career, Jr. High. He retired in 1992 and moved to Payson, AZ with his wife in 1993. In their retirement, Tom and his wife spent many hours serving as docents at the Rim Country Museum. They also spent many hours volunteeri­ng at their home parish, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Payson. In 2019, after both his and his wife’s health began to decline, Tom and Rebecca moved to Garden Grove, CA to live with their daughter and son-in-law. Tom passed away at his home in Garden Grove on the morning of February 9, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services will take place on March 11th, at 11 a.m. at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Tustin, CA. Tom was passionate about education and, in his life, establishe­d a scholarshi­p fund in his name at the University of WI-Plattevill­e. Before he passed, Tom requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to his scholarshi­p fund. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rebecca McGuigan, his daughter and son-in-law Julie and Federico Enriquez, and his grandchild­ren cavid and Rebecca Enriquez. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews, and his brother-in-law, cavid Walker.
