Ongoing NIH GIFT SHOP
The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, in the lobby of the hospital, is now open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. The shop carries a wonderful selection of baby clothes and accessories, unique gifts and is the only place in town that sells See’s Candy. The shop accepts credit cards.
SCAMP FOR TEENS (AIRCRAFT CLUB)
For teens interested in flying, engineering, aircraft construction and technology, the SCAMP Program is looking for a few more interested teens to help the club build and fly its next airplane. The group has already built most of the Airframs and are getting ready to install the engine and avionics. Club members also go flying where the teens get an opportunity to take the controls of a general aviation aircraft. PLAYHOUSE 395 AUDTIONS
Playhouse 395 will be holding auditions for “Hits Through the Decades” on Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5, at 1 p.m. in Bishop, at the Elks Lodge on East Line Street. Audition with your favorite hit from your favorite decade, from the 1950s to the 2000s. Come in costume, bring your own music, band, or play your own instrument. INYO COUNTY SPEECH CONTEST
The Inyo County Speech Contest is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Jill Kinmont Boothe School. The topic for this year’s contest is: “What makes a good community?” Trophies and monetary scholarships will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners, courtesy of Bishop Real Estate. A panel of judges will critique the speakers and judge them on the basis of content, effectiveness, delivery, poise, presentation, and audience appeal. The public is encouraged to attend. Sunday, March 5 MASTER GARDENERS
The UCCE Inyo and Mono Counties Master Gardeners Laura Mogg and Bobbie Stryffeler will have a workshop, “How To Compost and Save the World,” from 2 - 3 p.m. Meet at the Compost Station in the Bishop Community Garden located behind Bishop City Park on the Pine to Park Pathway directly behind Sterling Heights. Participants will help make and turn a compost pile. There will be a discussion on why you compost, different systems used and what materials are needed plus how to use compost and trouble shooting. Mountain Rambler Brewery, 186 S. Main St., Bishop, will be hosting a fundraiser for Playhouse 395 from 11 a.m. 9 p.m. A portion of profits from the event will be shared with the non-profit troupe, and entertainment featuring scenes from Playhouse’s spring community production, “Little Shop of Horrors” will be featured. “Little Shop of Horrors” will open March 17 at the Bishop Union High School theater and will run for three weekends with three performances each weekend. Registration is open for the Blake Jones Trout Derby based out of the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop.
