At the age of 10, Moreno was inspired by his older brothers’ art. Looking at comic book illustrations, he began drawing his own, using pencils, pen and ink and crayons. He also liked to design LP album covers. In addition, he would cut out comic book figures such as “Spiderman,” paste them on paper, and illustrate his own background.
He attended South Gate High School in Southern California and received many awards for his artwork.
The most memorable award received by
Moreno at the age of 17 was an invitation to attend a graphic design class at University of Southern California (USC).
After graduating from high school, he attended
Los Angeles Trade Technical Community College receiving an Associated Arts Degree in Graphic Design. He then worked as an illustrator for various advertising agencies over the next two years.
Later he joined the U.S. Forest Service and the National Parks Service and worked seasonally in the maintenance of roads and trails. During the off seasons, he continued pursuing his artistic creations. Later he became a full-time maintenance worker for roads and trails in Colorado, New Mexico and California.
He retired in 2020 and he now resides in Bishop and is employed at the Project Room conducting letter press printing.
Moreno spends his free time creating his art, “Anything that reaches out to his imagination becomes his work of art.”
You can find his art at C5 Studios and Bishop Art Supply. In addition, Moreno won the firstplace award at the 2022 Altrusa Art Sale.
