Lift up your head

- By Pastor Tim Homan

This week I would like to share an Advent devotional written by Pastor Matthew Richard in his book Minute Message. Gods’ blessings on your week.

Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. Luke 21:28

The disasters and tragedies of life can cause humanity to bury its head in the sand like a fearful ostrich. But as a Christian, these signs should cause you to lift up your head to await your Savior’s return. Your Lord is big, and you belong to Him, so every sign that points to the end of the world does not fill you with fear but fills your heart with hope.

You do not wait with fear, hoping for the emergence of a powerful utopian society. You do not wait with downcast heads tilted towards the shadows of disaster. Instead, you wait in hope with lifted heads, for you know that the Lord has come and will come to you with great power and might on the last day!

As you hear and receive Jesus in His Word and Sacraments, you can lift your head each day, knowing that Christ is here for you, despite the calamity and terror of the world around you.

So, when you see signs of disaster, straighten up! Hold your head high! Christ is here for you, and Christ is coming back for you! He is bigger than the world! He is bigger than you! You need not fear! Firmly in His Grip – Pastor Tim Homan
