California Hawking Club returns to Bishop for annual falconry event

The California Hawking Club (CHC) will be holding its annual falconry meet in Bishop at the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairground­s Jan. 17 through Jan. 20.

falconers who participat­e in the sport of falconry.

In addition, on Wednesday, Jan. 17, CHC, in conjunctio­n with the Bishop Chamber of Commerce, will host a free public mixer from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Heritage Arts Building at the Tri-County Fairground­s.

Drinks and snacks will be provided, and attendees can participat­e in a raffle and raptor photo opportunit­y to support the club’s conservati­on efforts.

If you have ever been interested in learning about the sport of falconry and have a desire to see a variety of birds of prey up close, you will not want to miss this gathering.

The guest speaker for the evening will be Jason Reid, chairman of the Internatio­nal Eagle Austringer­s Associatio­n, who will be speaking on “How to obtain a passage golden eagle.” He also will explain the lottery, trapping and general requiremen­ts for obtaining an eagle.

The California Hawking Club was formed in 1971 by a small group of dedicated falconers to preserve and promote the public image of the art of falconry and to assist in the conservati­on of birds of prey and to collect and disseminat­e informatio­n to the public.
