Successful Living

- By Rev. Dr. Walt Sharer

Here we are, Christmas is over and the New Year has just begun. Are you one that makes resolutions, detailed plans for the new year, or do you take life at what it gives you? Personally, I have one goal I set for myself and that is to love what I do and do what I love, even though these appear to be similar, each one requires somewhat of a different mindset. (You can be sure that I was going to get mind in there somewhere.) Also, each one can hold the first place over the other. If you are assigned a task, it really doesn’t matter if it is pleasant or unpleasant, your job is to see the value of the job at hand. Then picture in your mind how wonderful and beautiful the completed task makes your environment, or the peace of mind you will have. Once you have established the worth of the project it makes doing it gratifying.

Various authors and innovators have said they never worked a day in their life because they loved what they did. Mark Twain was one of them.

When I first began my college career, I wasn’t really sure what major I wanted. All I knew for sure was that I would benefit from the experience. When I signed up for classes there were only a few available to me. I chose geology and environmental geography. After only a few classes I knew that these two would be my life’s work for the foreseeable future. I loved both subjects and enthusiastically looked forward to each class. Later, after I graduated with an M. S. in Environmental Studies, I looked forward every day to my job as the regional environmental manager for a major United States

Corporation. For a fellow that aside from Tijuana and Las Vegas who had never left California, I flew frequently to most of the major cities in Canada, the United States and Mexico. When you love what you do and do what you love there is always more than adequate compensation, either or both financially or with gratification.

Enough about me, how about you? Are you doing what you love or love what you are doing? If not, why not? Everybody has the opportunity. It doesn’t matter about ethnicity, religion, social status, gender or which side of the tracks you live on. Of all the gifts God has given each one of us, the power of choice stands out as a key to happiness, health and prosperity. We are making choices all day every day. Why not make a few choices just for you? With all those choices we are bound to make a few that are the wrong way to go. When we discover mistakes, we can change them. Unlike religion which has you scarred for life when you error, it just takes a change in mind.

2024 is an election year when voters make their choice at the ballot box and the results will be historic. Let 2024 be the year of love and let love set the tone for the future. Love starts with loving yourself so that you can love your opportunities, the people in your life, and your Godgiven ability to change conditions in your life.

Say to yourself, “Today and everyday I shall love what I do and do what I love. God is love and loving me as I pass on that love to my jobs and the people around me. I am guided, maintained, and sustained in perfect peace.”

God is Love and Loving You Right Now!
