ROBERTA ‘BERT’ JONES CARLSON

1938 – 2023

Roberta ‘Bert’ Jones Carlson, 85, of Bishop, CA passed away December 27, 2023 in Reno, Nevada with family by her side.

Roberta was born to Robert Earl Jones and Mary Laktos Jones on August 2, 1938 in New Jersey. She graduated from Nazareth High School in PA in 1956. She married William Audenried and had 3 sons. After working on racetracks in Florida and Michigan she found her home in Bishop, CA where she met and married Don Carlson. Breaking, showing and riding horses was a passion and led to opening Pampered Pooches boarding and grooming.

Outside of her sometimes-gruff exterior was a hardworking, kind, and caring person who loved animals: especially dogs, cats and horses. Bert often took in lost or abandoned animals and dogs whose owners had passed and had nowhere to go. Bert gave shelter and love to abandoned or abused animals and worked hard to find them forever homes. She had no tolerance for anyone who abused or neglected animals. She took dogs home at night who were frightened from being separated from their owners and comforted them. She pampered and cared for the old and sick dogs left in her care. Pampered Pooches was not just the name of her business, it was her life.

All the dogs on the other side now have a new angel to play “fetch” with. She is now on a heavenly trail, riding one of her beloved horses, with hundreds of dogs running alongside.

She is preceded in death by her father Robert Earl Jones, mother Mary Laktos Jones, husbands William Audenried and Don Carlson, brother James Jones, and son Ross Audenried.

Bert is survived by son William Audenried, wife Gail, granddaughter Serena, grandsons Billy, Jake, Rocky, Neil, and 9 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Cara Audenried, granddaughter Carrie, grandson Joey, 4 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; son Robert Audenried, wife Debbie, and grandsons Zachary and Nicholas.
