Who do you think you are?

- By Rev. Dr. Walt Sharer

Long before the time of Jesus both the

Romans and the Greeks had many Gods. The head God was Zeus for the Greeks and Jupiter for the Romans. While they were Gods, they had all the frailties of man. They fought amongst themselves, had jealousies and anger with each other. It seemed they bickered continuously. Temples were constructed for each one. I’m glad we have only One God and there is no bickering or even the need of a physical temple because as Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is within you.” The beauty is that you don’t have to die to be in that consciousness. So, what must I do to claim this for myself, you may ask? The answer is extremely simple and at the same time requires your participation.

We have to go all the way back to the beginning when the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:1) There were not two Gods or three or four, just One and nothing but One. When God begins creation there is only Spirit. There is no spiritual Home Depot to get materials for creation. Since there was only Spirit, all form was formed of Spirit and if you pay close attention that includes man. You, me, and my neighbor down the block are spiritual beings and we live, move and have our being in a spiritual Universe. Just because you may not be aware of who and what you are doesn’t make it not so. Likewise, just because some hellfire and damnation preacher told you that you are a wretched sinner doesn’t make it so either.

Remember, I said the answer is simple, and now for the participation part. If I told you to love God with all your heart, you might say you already do that and you would be right. However, since all creation including man is made of God stuff, then we must love God in all, as all, unconditionally. In this age of name calling, political discontent, and religious exclusivity, it sounds like a difficult if not impossible task. We don’t have to love what people do or even what they believe, we love God within them. It is not up to us to punish or condemn others’ way of life. Life is on an onward and upward trajectory. Actions, attitudes, and thoughts contrary to progress of man are subject to the law of good and will self-correct in due time.

Being a spiritual being, it is your job to cultivate your thoughts of love and inclusion. As for mankind, we all are in this boat together. Some will take it upon themselves to row, some will say they are too weak to row, some will say that it is beneath them to row, some will complain about the rowers, and a very few will start the engine so we can get going. God bless them all. Let’s get this cruise going. Do your part and enjoy the ride.

Say to yourself, “The Spirit of Infinite Peace flows through my whole being. I am a spiritual being in a spiritual Universe. I live, move, and have my entire existence in this Peace. I know that Peace exists at the center of everything. I know that God is right where I am.”

God is Love and Loving You Right Now!
