County Office of Ed to host information night
Community nature lovers can learn how to participate in school program
The Inyo County Office of Education is encouraging nature enthusiasts who have ever wanted to make a difference and share their love for the environment with young minds to attend an informational meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
According to the office, the meeting should be of interest to those interested in paid volunteer opportunities to work with kids as an environmental educator.
The event promises to be an exciting evening filled with games, delicious food and valuable information about offerings for students and community members eager to get involved.
The meeting is planned from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Inyo County Office of Education, 166 Grandview Ave., Bishop.
According to the Inyo County Office of Education, “Our County Environmental Education programs thrive on the passion and commitment of volunteers. If you’ve ever dreamed of contributing to local outdoor education projects, this is your chance! Join us for a night of food, fun, and information about how you can play a vital role in bringing curiosity and science to life for our county’s elementary and middle School students.”

Some of the outdoor programs include a school gardens program called “Planting Seeds,” which is aimed at kindergarten students and first graders. Students learn by planting seeds and tending to vegetable plants in their classroom gardens.
“Taking Root,” for third-grade students, is a monthly field study program supported by partners with the Bishop and Big Pine Paiute tribes, Eastern Sierra Audobon, the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association.
