Reaching the top

- By Rev. Dr. Walt Sharer

On Sunday, Feb. 11, we all have the opportunity to tune in and watch the culmination of the season of an incredibly competitive National Football League. This so-called Super Bowl pits two teams of athletics in superb physical condition against each other. Each of these teams consists of fifty-three players and assorted coaches supporting the players. Most, if not all, of these players have trained most of their life to reach this ultimate goal of playing in the Super Bowl. They knew what they wanted to achieve at a very young age, unlike myself. I was asked many times what I wanted to be when I grew up. My avocation changed many times, sometimes week to week. It took until my junior year in college before I figured it out.

Few of us will ever have our bodies in the condition of the Super Bowl athletics and unfortunately few of us have trained our mind towards a positive and ultimately successful mode. Even though athletics often may lose, they train to win and in that they are winners. Before every contest they hype themselves or are hyped by others toward a winning framework in mind.

I was trained as a salesman. After a full week of training and before me and my fellow trainees were assembled together before we were sent out to begin our first encounter with our customers. Essentially the meeting was the final hype to get us in a positive frame of mind. The management became the cheerleaders as we set out to approach the field. I knew that if I thought I would not be a good salesman, that I would not make it.

Wouldn’t it be great if we had a cheerleading squad behind our every move? Then surely we might never fail or come short of our objectives. We do have God, who made it all possible, but He is kind of silent. We can also count on relatives and friends to cheer us on, but the ultimate cheerleader must be you. Your use of mind will always guide your success or failure in all that you do. If you are affirming, loving and enthusiastic you will never fail and the surest way to lose is negativity and a sour mood.

Athletes love their sport whether it be football, basketball, baseball or individual sports. That way they are always winners. Losers can never fully enjoy what they do. We all must get our mind set on the pathway of encouragement and success. It is really not that hard to do, but you must be consistent and diligent. Remember, look only at what you want to see. Listen to what you want to hear and love what you do.

Say to yourself, ”I am a winner. God made me in his image and likeness. God never fails, as I will never fail. I love what I do and do what I can to share that love.”

God is Love and Loving You Right Now!
