Preparing for the future

- By Rev. Dr. Walt Sharer

Too often we look at information from news sources or so-called experts and adjust or change our response. In the early days of radio H. G. Wells broadcast an early promo to his book ”War of Worlds.’ Unfortunately, there was no disclaimer revealing that the broadcast was fictious. There was widespread panic and some suicides as a result of the airing. Needless to say, regulations were instituted to ensure there would not be a repeat of that kind of programing.

There seems to be all kinds of things competing for our attention. Your life, my life, and everyone’s lives are always filled with activity, even those moments when it seems like nothing is happening. So, how do we prepare for moments that may be shocking or frightening? Many have a strong faith in prayer and a powerful belief in God. Some rely on luck or fate and some think that whatever happens will happen, no matter what.

While that seems to work or not for many, it doesn’t do it for me, nor should it do it for you. We must remember that life is a mirror reflecting back what we project. Provided we fill our consciousness with love, we can expect love to be returned to us from all avenues, even though it may not appear as loving. Remember, we are dealing with Mind and mind alone. Lack, loss and limitation are states of mind. If they are not admitted to your mind, they don’t exist. Yes, it takes strength and courage to stand when others fall, but that is why we are here. “Though a thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, it will not come near you.” Psalm 91:7

To work with life we need to be proactive, not reactive. I am a firm believer in the power of affirmations. I have a ready inventory of affirmations ready to deal with whatever I encounter. I suggest that you develop your own or you are welcome to use mine. It is not that life is filled with perils we can’t handle, it is like the Boy Scout motto, Be Prepared.

I have mentioned before that I use the first line in the “Prayer of Faith” as a primary affirmation, only I use the acronym of it. God is my help in every need. (GIMHIEN)

Say to yourself, “I have all the energy, power and strength I need. God within me is my courage and ability. I love and am loved. Whatsoever I need or desire is supplied when it is needed. I shall fear no evil for thou art with me.”

God is Love and Loving You Right Now!
