TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 2024 Voters to take to the polls today

Polling places, drop boxes to be open until 8 p.m. today

Voters in 16 states, including California, and one territory will make their voices heard today in what is anticipate­d to be the biggest primary election of the 2024 cycle.

Locally, voters will be casting ballots for supervisor­s of Inyo County’s Second, Fourth and Fifth districts, all of which are contested races.

The candidates are:

• Second District: Jeff Griffiths (incumbent) and Laura Smith

The Second District includes the city of Bishop.

• Fourth District: Jen Roeser (incumbent) and Genevieve Jones

The Fourth District includes several surroundin­g communitie­s around the city of Bishop, including Round Valley, Bishop Creek and Aspendell, Big Pine, Aberdeen to north of Independen­ce.

• Fifth District: Laura Blystone, Aaron Cassell, Ash Seiter, Will “The Handyman” Wadelton,

Dan Berry and Spencer McNeal. Current Fifth District Supervisor Matt Kingsley didn’t run for reelection.

The Fifth District is the counties largest district geographic­ally and encompasse­s several communitie­s in southern and southeaste­rn Inyo, including Fort Independen­ce Indian Community of Paiutes Reservatio­n, Independen­ce, Lone Pine, Cartago, Darwin, Furnace Creek, Tecopa, Shoshone, Death Valley and Charleston View.

In-person polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the following locations:

• Paiute Profession­al Center, 52 Tu Su Lane, Bishop

• Heritage Arts Building, Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairground­s, 475 Sierra St., Bishop

• Big Pine Town Hall, 150 Dewey St., Big Pine

• Basement Courtroom, Courthouse, 168 N. Edwards St., Independen­ce

• Statham Town Hall, 138 N. Jackson St., Lone Pine
