ALICE JOY LINCOLN CHARLIE

-

1934 – 2024

Alice Joy Lincoln Charlie was born on February 5th, 1934, on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation in Idaho, to Ti-Tiroh A. Lincoln and Mollie Yellowstone. She was ShoshoneBannock, a proud member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe. She passed away, at home, surrounded by her family on the evening of March 5th, 2024, in Sparks, Nevada. Alice was 90 years old.

As a young child, she was raised by her grandmother Louise Yellowstone LeClaire until she was sent to the Stewart Indian Boarding School located in Carson City, Nevada. While attending the boarding school she worked at Lake Tahoe where she was a housekeeper for Mr. and Mrs. Globen. She often spoke fondly of them, had good memories and many funny stories. Also, while attending Stewart boarding school, she met many friends and eventually ran away with two of them to the Elko area. She enrolled herself in Elko high school where she played the flute in the high school marching band. She was a proud graduate of Elko high school and during the ceremony she had Tommie Charlie sit in the audience to watch her graduate. Shortly after Tommy and Alice started their lives together in Lee, Nevada where they lived with the late Harry and Jesse Tom. Alice and Tommie had three children, Rebecca Jane Charlie, the late Louis Anthony Charlie, and the late Raymond Vincent Charlie. They lived in various mining towns throughout Nevada including Austin and Manhattan. Around 1960, they moved their family to Bishop, California where Tommie became employed by Union Carbide Mine and Alice was a homemaker and stayed at home to raise their three young children. Tommie retired from Union Carbide after 25 years. After retirement, they moved to Battle Mountain Indian Colony, where Tommie eventually passed away. Alice then moved back to Bishop to be with their children. In 2016, she moved to Sparks, Nevada with her daughter Rebecca, who got a job at the Pyramid Lake Fisheries. She enjoyed living closer to her oldest granddaughter Clarice and loved being a part of her great-granddaughters lives. They kept her happy and busy with softball games, birthday celebrations, graduations, summer bbq’s and lake days. Alice loved to travel everywhere with her family, especially back to the Owens Valley to visit with her granddaughters, Tara and Florence, her great-grandchildren and friends.

She received the best care and love daily, by her grandson Troy and her daughter Rebecca. There were many times when Rebecca came home from work and Alice and Troy would be out riding around in the mountains scouting for pine nuts. She loved being anywhere in the mountains and loved getting out of the house. Alice loved to watch her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports and loved to cheer them on no matter the weather. She had many friends that she made over her lifetime ranging from Nevada, Rovana, and all throughout, the Owens Valley. She always enjoyed visiting them and would love to reminisce and share stories about their good times. She certainly made special imprints on everyone she would encounter. Alice will be missed by many, and her memory will live on in our hearts forever.

Alice was preceded in death by her father; Ti-Tir-oh A. Lincoln, mother; Mollie Yellowstone, sister; Elva Jane Lincoln, brother; Lynn Lincoln, her husband; Tommie Charlie, sons; Louis Charlie, Raymond Charlie and grandson; Daniel Charlie.
