Ongoing PLAYHOUSE 395’S “BYE BYE BIRDIE”

Playhouse 395’s upcoming spring production is the beloved musical, “Bye Bye Birdie” – a witty, humorous, and honest look at the generation­al difference­s between adults and teens in a loving send-up of the 1950s in smalltown America. Full of memorable characters, this comedy tells a hilarious, high-energy story accompanie­d by a familiar musical score that celebrates the beginnings of rock and roll. SIERRA CLASSIC THEATRE

The Sierra Classic Theatre presents “The Minutes,” from March 15 through March 30. The play takes place in real time at a small-town town council meeting so the play has been staged at the Town of Mammoth Lakes Offices, Ste. Z. FREE TAX HELP FEBRUARY THROUGH APRIL 15

The AARP Foundation Tax Aide programs in Bishop and Mammoth expanded opportunit­ies in Bishop. Appointmen­ts are now being accepted for Friday afternoons from 1:30 - 4 p.m. Additional­ly as a result of the Library flood, the Mammoth site has moved to Fire Station No. 2 (next to Snowcreek Athletic Club) until the library reopens.

The AARP Foundation Tax Aide programs in Bishop and Mammoth using IRS-certified volunteers prepare federal and state tax returns online without charge to low- and moderatein­come residents. TK/kinder pre-registrati­on has opened for Bishop Elementary School, 800 W. Elm St., Bishop, for the school year beginning Aug. 15. BISHOP LIONS STUDENT SPEAKERS

Bishop Lions will hold its zone-level student speakers contest this at 4:30 p.m. at the Bishop VFW Hall, 484 Short St. Students from Independen­ce, Mammoth and Bishop Lions who won at the local club level will compete in the Nevada District 46 Zone 1-E level contest, with the subject “What Risk does Artificial Intelligen­ce pose to the future of American culture?” Several local officials will judge the students as they compete, with the winner moving on to the Region level contest in Carson City, Nevada. The students were recruited by local Lions members in their communitie­s beginning last fall and this level of competitio­n is the result of research, practice speaking solo and with family and tutor assistance, with the hope of moving on through competitio­n and earning scholarshi­p support for further education after high school.
