Bishop woman reportedly killed in crash
CHP reports Bishop woman killed
A three-car collision at about 8:50 p.m. on March 17 resulted in the death of one person and minor injuries to several other people after one vehicle collided with a large rock in the roadway and two other cars became involved in the collision.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim was a 26-yearold woman from Bishop who was later identified by Mono County Sheriff Ingrid Braun as Destiny Forehand.
The incident occurred near Swuagger Creek Road in Mono County on a part of U.S. Highway 395 called “Rattlesnake Curve,” which is located south of Devils Gate at a sharp curve that takes a clear turn to the west and begins the climb toward the Devils Gate summit.
At about 8:50 p.m. March 17, California Highway Patrol Officer and Public Information Officer Dennis Parks said a call came in regarding reports of a boulder that fell in the road on the edge of the southbound lane near the white line. The boulder was about two-feet-wide-by four-feet long, he said.
CHP immediately then got a report of a collision, with multiple vehicles and ambulances responding, he said.
Initial reports indicate that the first vehicle to be involved in the collision was a vehicle traveling southbound with two occupants. This southbound vehicle collided with the boulder before it veered into the northbound lanes, where it then struck a vehicle that was traveling northbound and carrying four occupants.
The northbound vehicle then went out of control into the southbound lanes where it hit another southbound vehicle which was carrying one occupant.
Forehand was the passenger in the first vehicle that struck the boulder; the driver of the northbound vehicle was the individual who was transported by air with major injuries, CHP said.
There were several minor lacerations and one party complained of pain, Parks said.
The collision remains under investigation. No arrests were made, he said.
