The weakest week in history

- By Rev. Kent Puls

The many different views of God that people hold might tend to weaken His nature and attributes. However, the true and triune God remains strong despite the corrupted views of fallen men. Some teach that in essence human beings are god. Others teach that preceding gods created the God that orthodox Christians worship. Still others teach that everything is god. The revealed truth of Scripture is that God has always been. He has no beginning or end. To glorify any other God than the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) is to dilute and blaspheme this divine One.

God becomes weak as He becomes flesh in His Son Jesus Christ. As we approach Holy Week we see God at His weakest, saving us from the torment of hell.

Majority opinion will not keep His strength from saving you. Faulty views that come from the devil’s own mind won’t keep Him from loving you to the end.

Imagine being punished as a child every time one of your school mates was in trouble. Your life would be miserable.

This wouldn’t seem fair, either. But Jesus in His weakest week was beaten, bruised and battered for you. Jesus didn’t die just to be a moral example to show you how to live. He died and suffered beyond belief for your many sins. Martin Luther once called himself a “filthy maggot.” But Jesus gave him all things with His blood and perfect life. If you are feeling low this week remember how weak He became for you. The One uncreated assumed a weakly human nature that we could be called princes and kings in His name. The One who called stars, sea, lakes, streams, animals, and humans into being, hung in nakedness for your salvation. A blessed Holy week to you as you remember His weakness.
