The Quality Life

- By Rev. Dr. Walt Sharer

Of utmost importance to our day-to-day interaction with life is our belief in a higher power that is the essence in, around and about our very being. It really doesn’t matter which name that is given to describe this absolute power, but for the sake of clarity I will call It God. The Bible tells us that God created all that there is, which includes each one-of us. Lest we get too cocky about our God qualities, the Bible tells of God’s regret of creating man. Multiple times He seeks to destroy man and start over with a betterbehaved lot. This is where the Bible doesn’t tell the whole story, because for God to be God, He could fail and we wouldn’t be here.

Here we are in all our glory. Now what are we supposed to do with our lives? Unlike some teaching that we should feel guilty because of some past transgressions of mythical beings hundreds and thousands of years ago, our job or duty is to take on the values of this great power. This means that in our daily interactions with our fellow man we should of necessity be kindly, helpful, thoughtful, encouraging, and inspiring. Why should we do this? Because that is how we want others to be to us. Life is reciprocal in that it mirrors your actions.

I have heard some could not get through the Bible because of the begats contained in some of the books, however, the begats are reflecting results based on the types of characters described. Hateful behaviors begat more hate. Fearful interactions distribute more things to fear. The saving grace is that love begats love. That is what life is all about. The cultivation of love is the best thing we have going for us. Love appreciates life in all forms. Right now, it is Springtime and life is breaking out of Winter’s grasp in multiannual ways. The animals are pairing off and the trees are displaying new greenness. It is a wonderful time to be alive, but we must also deal other realities that may bring us sorrow or even pain.

Like so many animal lovers before me, I have had to deal with the passing of beloved pets that were part of my household. It is never easy, but appreciation has been my way to work through the grief process. The more I can appreciate the life of my pet or even a family member, the more I can let love see me through the pain of loss. My animals will always be alive in me, and for that I am thankful. I miss the physical presence but relish the memories of companionship. We are back to the reflection ship. Love begats love with all the memories and anticipation of more of the same.

Say to yourself, “God, the good is all there is and I am ever in the presence and happiness of creating my world of peace and love. I feel no guilt for what has happened in history. I do the right thing for the benefit of all. I will enjoy each moment as it transpires.”
