After numerous users with wrist tattoos reported issues with the Apple Watch—many dubbing the problem “TattooGate” on Twitter—Apple finally acknowledged the matter on its website, stating that dark wrist tattoos have the potential to interfere with the Apple Watch's heart rate sensor, leading to inaccurate results. Apple's webpage clarifies that the “ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings.”
