The entire football team saw me drive into a light pole!

-

I was so excited to turn 15 because that meant I could finally sign up for Driver’s Education at school! Since I practiced with my dad a few times, I felt comfortable on the first day of class, and my teacher even complimented me on how calm I seemed.

The only thing that I needed help with was pulling into a parking spot. While my dad had tried helping me on that, I still couldn’t get the hang of staying in the lines. After driving around with the instructor for a half hour, he told me to go back to the school so we could practice parking. “Great,” I thought, hoping it wouldn’t be a total disaster. As soon as I pulled in, I saw the entire football team waiting for their bus to come. “Don’t pay attention to them!” my instructor said. “Just focus on this.” Feeling all the eyes on me, I took a deep breath and just decided to go for it. As I glided into the spot, I got nervous and confused myself — hitting the gas instead of the brake to slow down. “Stop!” my instructor screamed. “Hit the brakes!” But it was too late ... within seconds, the car hit right into a nearby light pole, bringing us to a complete stop. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry!” I said, trying to process what just happened.

The instructor got out, yelling about the damage while the football players laughed! — Lauren, FL
