Buffs kick off against Bruins at 5 p.m. Nov. 7

We’ve known for a while now that Colorado’s first game of the 2020 college football season would be against UCLA and that it would take place on Nov. 7. Now, we know exactly how much longer we’ll have to wait.

The Buffs have officially announced that their kickoff time against the Bruins will be 5 p.m. on Nov. 7 and will air on ESPN2. The announcement was sent out Monday afternoon.

The Nov. 7 opener will be the latest season start in CU’S 131 season history. The Buffaloes have the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to thank for that. The Buf fs were originally slated to open the season against CSU back in September. That was changed when the Pac-12 announced that they would move to a conference only schedule for the season.

Then, August came, and the Pac-12 announced that they would be postponing all fall sports to the spring season as a precaution. That move followed similar announcements made by the MAC and the Big Ten.

However, that all changed last month when the MAC, Big Ten, MWC, and Pac-12 announced that they would play the football season in the fall after all. The Buffs and all other Pac-12 teams will play a 7-game schedule. Six of those games have already been announced, while the 7th will be a divisional opponent for the 10 teams that don’t qualify for the Pac-12 championship game.

The Buffs finished last season 5-7 with a 3-6 record in conference. The opener is also significant as first year CU head coach Karl Dorrell’s only prior head coaching job was with the Bruins from 2003-2007. Following the home game against UCLA, the Buffaloes will play at Stanford, host Arizona State, travel to USC, travel to Arizona, host Utah, and play either an additional divisional game or the Pac-12 championship. All games will be played on Saturdays except for the Utah game which will be played on Friday night, Dec. 11 at 7:30 and be nationally televised on FS1.
