What a wonderful world

As I sit here watching the amazing tiny little snow flakes falling from the dark sky I can’t help to think about how wonderful our world is. How each and every little snow flake is different and beautiful be it tiny or the huge fluffy ones we all like to draw!

It also leads me to think about all the people who are up late at night keeping us all snug and warm. The energy workers who work through very cold conditions to assure that we have energy. And when it does go out they are out in the elements working countless hours to bring us back online. The snow plow drivers clearing the roads and the paramedics all out there helping us if we need assistance. So many unsung heroes. We are so blessed to have so many hard working people working through storms!

Now think how much more impressive it is to know that our Savior has all of this under control and figured out before we even consider it. He knows each and every individual need that we have and he meets them each day. We may not see that everyday but we know it to be true. We are so blessed!

This Sunday across the world many congregations will hear the wonderful words that we have shortened to the Beatitudes. But really! How wonderful is it that our Lord gave us these comforting words:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

(Matt. 5:3–11)

I saw once that to be blessed doesn’t mean to be happy. It means to be happy in all things because of Christ. WOW isn’t that something special? Something to really think about. And doesn’t that give you some amazing comfort?

Blessed doesn’t mean you’re always happy. It doesn’t have everything you think you should have. It is happy because of Christ, it is happy in Christ. It means that because of Christ in all things we can be content because we know that we are His children loved by him and forgiven by him. We are truly blessed!
