A 17-year-old male was arrested Aug. 5 and faces an attempted murder charge after a domestic disturbance landed two women in the hospital.

According to Sterling Police Chief Tyson Kerr, police were called to the 600 block of Douglas Street at about 9:40 p.m. that evening at the report of a disturbance involving a baseball bat. When they arrived, officers found two women, one 53 years old and one 24 years old, suffering serious injuries to their heads. Officers rendered first aid until medical personnel arrived; the victims were taken to Sterling Regional Medcenter and then transferred to Front Range hospitals.

Police found that a 17-year-old male was living in the home but had become disruptive and was drinking heavily. When confronted, Kerr said, the teen became enraged and attacked the women with the ball bat and then fled the scene. The youth was found the next morning and arrested without incident. He is being held without bond on two counts each of criminal attempted second-degree murder and first degree assault.

Names of the parties involved are not being released at this time.

In an unrelated incident, Sterling police responded to a residence in the 400 block of Washington Street late on the evening of Aug. 11, on a report of an adult deceased female found in a detached garage. Upon arrival, officers located a second victim, an adult male, also in the garage.

Detectives conducted a thorough on-scene investigation and as a result no indication of foul play is suspected. Autopsies have been scheduled for next week.

The identities of the victims, who are known to one another, are not being released pending notification of next of kin.

There is no threat to the community due to this incident and the investigation continues.
