Four Sterling organizations receive funding from El Pomar

-

Four Sterling non-profits are getting financial assistance from El Pomar Foundation. Cooperating Ministry of Logan County, Family Resource Center, Logan County Arts League and Sterling Baseball Organization are among the Northeast region non-profits that received funding in the foundation’s most recent grant cycle.

El Pomar Trustees approved $86,500 allocated to six nonprofit organizations and government entities in the Northeast region at the Foundation’s August Trustees meeting. Through the Foundation’s grant-making process, the following organizations were awarded grants:

• Cooperating Ministry of Logan County (Sterling) — $10,000 in general operating support; competitive

• Energy Resource Center (Colorado Springs) — $50,000 for northeast Colorado and San Luis Valley general operating support; competitive

• Family Resource Center (Sterling) — $5,000 for youth programs; Karl E. Eitel Fund

• Logan County Arts League (Sterling) — $2,500 in general operating support; regional merit

• Sedgwick County (Julesburg) — $16,500 for wildland equipment and PPE; Wildland Fire Fund

• Sterling Baseball Organization — $2,500 in general operating support; regional merit Founded by Spencer and Julie Penrose in 1937, El Pomar Foundation has an established legacy of general purpose grant making. The competitive process remains the Foundation’s primary vehicle for organizations to receive funding. Additionally, over the last 80 years, El Pomar has either developed or been entrusted with the stewardship of a number of other funds, as well as presenting merit grants in each region recommended by Trustees and regional council members. Competitive applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

In an effort to increase impact and establish connections across the entire state, the Regional Partnerships

program was established in 2003. Each of the Foundation’s 11 regional councils advises El Pomar Trustees and recommends grants to help support its communities. The Northeast Regional Council recommends grants in Cheyenne, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Philips, Sedgwick, Washington and Yuma Counties. Council members are regional leaders in the business, nonprofit, and public sectors and provide firsthand information about current needs in their own communities.

The Karl E. Eitel Fund honors the legacy of Karl E. Eitel, who served as a

Trustee of El Pomar Foundation for 23 years. He was a strong advocate for youth and youth development, and this fund recognizes and supports organizations that serve at-risk youth throughout Colorado.

The Wildland Fire Fund assists with immediate emergency needs of volunteer firefighting agencies and first responders throughout the state of Colorado. Started in 2002 in response to the Hayman Fire, the Wildland Fire Fund has awarded more than $6 million in grants over 20 years.
