Fleming football bounces back in dominant fashion

- By Alissa Noe

A 46-0 loss to Haxtun didn’t sit right with Fleming football.

Following the setback to 8-man’s best team, 6-man’s No. 2 Wildcats dropped the hammer on Peetz in a 57-6 final. A high-scoring second quarter put them away before the second half even started, after the Wildcats’ 32 points put them up 38-0 heading into the midway break.

After that, they put up just 19 points while allowing a Bulldogs touchdown in the third quarter to get the job done. Senior quarterback Braylen Feather threw for just 39 yards but managed to fit two touchdown passes in there, both of which went to junior Wyatt Cochran.

As usual, the Wildcats excelled more on the run as they accrued 305 rushing yards in total, most of which came at the hands of senior Nolan Japp and senior Blake Feather, who ran for 103 yards and 99 yards, respectively. Blake Feather punched in two touchdowns as Japp added another, and sophomore Travis Johnson scored one more.

Senior Kolten Houser and Blake Feather excelled on the defensive side of things, as they collected 14 and 11 tackles. Junior Wyatt Cochran added a sack to his performance as Japp intercepted one of Peetz’s passes for a 50-yard return.

Now, the Wildcats must prepare for a home matchup against a 2-4 Weldon Valley team this Friday as they look to improve their record to 5-1.

Fleming volleyball jumps up a spot in the rankings

A week after Fleming volleyball, through no fault of its own, fell to No. 4 in the Class 1A rankings, the Wildcats showed the CHSAA coaches the error of their ways.

They downed Peetz in three easy sets to extend their winning streak to eight games with a 12-2 record. In doing so, they jumped Dove Creek in the top 10 to move up to No. 3 behind Merino and Mcclave.
