Robert "Bob" W. Montgomery Sr.

Robert "Bob" Warren Montgomery Sr., a longtime Sterling resident passed away on Saturday,

January 28, 2023 in Sterling.

Visitation will be held at Tennant Funeral Home from 4pm to 6pm on Friday, Feb. 3rd, Rosary and Vigil ser vices will follow at 6pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 4th at 9: 30am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Michael Bodzioch celebratin­g. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Bob was born August 20, 1930, in Sterling, CO to Clay Allison and Lulu May ( Worthley) Montgomery. He was raised on the Homesteads of his Dad and Grandmothe­r Montgomery 28 miles northwest of Sterling in the Graylin Community. He walked to school at Pleasant View and later went to Liberty. He attended Sterling High School and graduated with the class of 1947.

He star ted his Railroad career with the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy, August 1950 as a brakeman and later became a conductor and switchmen. He made many trips from Sterling to Cheyenne, WY. He worked on freight trains from Sterling to Alliance, NE, Guernsey, WY, Holyoke, CO, Denver, CO and Holdridge, NE. He also worked on the Passenger train from Brush to Alliance, NE. He was a member of the Brotherhoo­d of Railroad Trainmen and was secretary, treasurer, and local chairman. He was a member of the UTU when they merged. He retired on February 9, 1993 with 42 ? 1/ 21/ 21/ 21/ 2 years of ser vice from Burlington Northern Railroad.

Bob joined the Colorado National Guard 157 Infantry March 3, 1948 and was honorably discharged November 15, 1955.

Bob married Joan Stratman at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Sterling, CO on June 26, 1951. She was the love of his life and they provided a loving home to their children.

They raised four daughters: Linda, Lorraine, Sandra and Melissa and one son Robert Jr. Bob always attended the kids' school, 4- H, Girl Scout and sports activities when possible.

Bob was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1559 and served as Deputy Grand Knight, Grand Knight, Board of Trustees and Chancellor. He attended the Supreme Convention in Chicago 1996 as a Delegate. He was District Deputy for District # 7 and # 37. He was a member of the Jim Brom Assembly # 95, 4th Degree Knights.

Bob was a Lifetime Member of the Sterling Elks Lodge 1336.

Bob and Joan were avid sports fans and especially loved to attend Colorado Rockies games. They attended games at many stadiums throughout the country and visited all of the stadiums except the Diamond Backs in Arizona. They enjoyed watching sports on TV and loved following the Rockies, Broncos and Nuggets in good times and bad.

Bob is sur vived by his children, grandchild­ren, great grandchild­ren and great great grandchild­ren: Linda Slade and husband, George and their daughters and son- in- laws, Ann and Chuck Hill and their sons Dylan and Cayden Hill. Michelle and Roy Dueitt and their daughter Courtny and her daughter Serenity & son MJ. Mary and Curtis Goodwin, all around Humble, TX. Lorraine and husband Bruce Legates of Oxford, NC and step- son Eliot and Gracie Legates of Naples, FL. Robert Jr and wife Kim ( Carrasco)

Montgomery and daughter Holly Knight and her daughters Zoe and Ava of- - - - Sterling. Sandra and husband Robert Newsome and son Wiley Newsome of Cody, WY. Melissa and husband Wesley Allen and daughter Sahale of Cody, WY. Sisters- in laws Gloria Montgomery of Timnath, CO, Doris Montgomery of Sterling, CO and Lena Schritter of Rio Rancho NM and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Joan, parents Clay and Lulu ( Worthley) Montgomery, his sister Gladys ( Infant), brothers Clay Jr and Joseph, his grandson, George Slade III, his mother and father in- law Lena ( Schrage) and Carl Stratman, brothers- in- law Norbert and wife Betty, Dale and wife Dorothy, Verdell ( Rudy) and Charles and wife Helen, sisters- in- law Gertrude and husband Lumir Hamsa and Maryann Stratman.

Bob lived a very wonderful life by traveling to most of the United States and especially Alaska, Hawaii and Germany, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.
