Commission­er Greenberg advocates for Colorado at National Ag Policy Conference

Colorado Commission­er of Agricultur­e Kate Greenberg was in Washington D.C. two weeks ago attending the National Associatio­n of State Department­s of Agricultur­e (NASDA) conference to advocate for Colorado’s interests on the national level.

During the conference, Commission­er Greenberg met with state and federal leaders, agricultur­al business leaders, and emerging leaders from the Minorities in Agricultur­e, Natural Resources,

and Related Sciences (MANRRS). Together they discussed several topics of note to Colorado, including the response to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and spotted lantern fly, the reorganiza­tion of the FDA, the regulation of hemp products, internatio­nal trade, Waters of the United States (WOTUS), western drought and water supply, soil health, farm and ranch resilience, climate change, and improving disaster response.

“Colorado agricultur­e has long been a leader on conservati­on and climate resilience, food safety, hemp, and supporting new and beginning farmers, and we continue to advocate for these issues and more on the national level,” said Commission­er Kate Greenberg. “The discussion­s during the NASDA conference were collaborat­ive and informativ­e, and I look forward to working with other NASDA members toward solutions that support agricultur­e across the nation during this Farm Bill year.”

In addition to the conference, Commission­er Greenberg met with the British Ambassador, Dame Karen Pierce, as well as U.K. Secretary of State for Environmen­t, Food, and Rural Affairs, the Rt Honorable Thérèse Coffey MP to discuss advancing business opportunit­ies for Colorado agricultur­e in the U.K. Board members also met with Agricultur­e Committee members in the U.S. House and Senate to discuss advancing 2023 Farm Bill priorities.

Commission­er Greenberg represents Colorado on the NASDA Board of Directors and is the 2023 Chair of the Western Associatio­n of State Department­s of Agricultur­e (WASDA).
