Henry Frederick Schaffer III (Hank Jr.)

July 5, 1949 - November 22, 23

-

Henry was born July 5th, 1949, in Sterling, CO to Hank and Sally Schaffer. He passed away November 22nd in Gamaliel, Ar.

Hank Jr. grew up on the Schaffer farm 1-1/2 miles south of Sterling. He graduated from Sterling High in 1967. From there he attended Northeastern Junior College for 2 years then went to Colo State University and then

Colo Aerotech in Denver. His love was electrical engineering.

For a few years Hank owned a Bose retail store in downtown Sterling, helped with farming then eventually made his way to Steamboat Springs, Co. where he spent the last 30 years until a recent move to Arkansas. He worked for several years in Steamboat as a fireplace technician until he retired.

His love of God and country shined through his everyday life. You could always find him serving in his church, helping with technical sound systems, or singing in the choir. He was a member of several Bible study groups in Steamboat.

Hank was a Gideon for over 20 years and made it to many International Gideon conventions. He was certified to speak in churches on behalf of the International Organization. One of his highlights was getting to place Bibles in the rooms of a brand-new hotel. He made several trips to the surrounding small towns to distribute Bibles to the children and students outside of the schools.

Hank was very patriotic and a strong supporter of the local GOP chapter in Routt County. For many years he dressed up as Abraham Lincoln and rode in several parades including the surrounding towns' parades.

In December 2016, he purchased a Tesla and drove to Texas for Christmas. He always said "It was God's car, he just lets me drive it!" From there he then made numerous trips all over the country, some of them more than once. His destinations included Wash DC, Florida, Calif, Wash, Virginia, Wyoming, S Dakota, Ill, Kentucky and others. He loved giving folks rides!

Hank loved the outdoors and almost every day he took long walks. It was very common to see him bundled up walking in the early morning in the streets of Steamboat with the snow piled high along the sides on his way to a Men's Bible study group. He was a devout Bible believing Christian that tried to exemplify that in his everyday life. We can be assured that he is truly at peace in the arms of his beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Hank Jr was preceded in death by his parents, Hank & Sally Schaffer and an infant son,

Henry David. He is survived by numerous loving friends and family, including his bereaved partner Diane and her children, his son, Dustin Schaffer of Phoenix, Az. And his two sisters, Cindy Blair of Dallas, Tx, and Cathy Schaffer (Tracy) of Royse City, Tx. Also, nieces, Brittany Mixon (Josh) of Dallas, Tx. and Kimberly Buechler (Bobby) & family of Orting, WA. along with many cousins.

Celebrations of Hank's life will be held in Steamboat & Sterling around the weekend of June 1-2, 2024. Details for thcoming.
