Samuel Dean Wolever, Sr. passed away Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024, in Haxtun, Colorado. Viewing will be held from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Monday, January 8 at Chaney-reager Funeral Home with family present from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 9 at Prairie Home Baptist Church in Haxtun, Colorado with burial to follow at the Fleming Cemetery.

Samuel was born July 14, 1956, in Sterling, Colorado to Wesley and Lois (Dillon) Wolever. Sam spent his childhood in Merino, Colorado on the family farm. He attended high school in Merino and graduated in 1976 from Merino High School.

Sam met Melisa Dodd and they were married on August 24th, 1978, in Fleming, Colorado. They made their home in Fleming, Colorado where they had 5 children together. He worked at Sterling Brick Company, The Sugar Factory in Sterling, Logan County Road and Bridge, and most recently CHS in Fleming.

He served his community for over 40 years with the Fleming Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighte­r and an EMT and ran for other local EMS services in his 40 plus years of service. He was always first to answer the call, even after "retirement" he still was first to respond, at every meeting and training. This work ethic and want to serve has carried over into his children. They all decided to follow in his footsteps and to serve for the fire department or EMS at some point in their life and some still do. He is proceeded in death by his wife Melisa Wolever, daughter Melaine Wolever, father Wesley Wolever and brother Rick Wolever.

Sam is survived by his mother Lois (Dillon) Wolever, his sons John Wolever and wife Alana of Sidney, NE, Mike Wolever and wife Kay of Juniata, NE, Ben Wolever and wife Kim of Malvern, AR, and Sam Wolever Jr of Fleming, Co. He is also survived by his grandchild­ren Cheyenne and husband Joshua Loney of Sterling, Colorado, Faith and Mason of Sterling, CO, Tymberlie of Sidney, NE, Brady, Macie, and Dakota of Juniata, NE. Matthew, Alexia and Brayden of Malvern, AR., his brothers David and wife Lisa Wolever of Sterling, CO and Tim and wife Pat Wolever of Sterling, CO, 2 great granddaugh­ters Ruby and Amara, and a great grandson on the way, as well as numerus other family members.
