Logan County has approved the first solar farm to be built in the county since new regulations on renewable energy development went into effect in 2023.

That approval came during the Logan County Board of Commissioners business meeting Tuesday morning.

The installation will be built on 50 acres of dryland pasture south of Country Club Hills and north of County Road 24 on land leased from Becki Dick. The project will involve more than 12,000 solar panel modules mounted about six feet off the ground on single-axis trackers and will be surrounded by an eight-foot fence.

The solar farm, when finished, will generate five megawatts of power. It is being built by Cloudbreak Energy Partners of Boulder, doing business as CBEP Solar 33, LLC.

While the project does conform with the county’s new regulations, the board did add one stipulation after a neighbor pointed out there is nothing in CBEP’S plans for weed control. The commissioners added that condition to the permit approval.

In other business Tuesday the commissioners approved liquor license renewals for F&H Park and Recreation District, which is an eight-hole golf course between Haxtun and Fleming, and for PJ Marina at North Sterling Reservoir.

The commissioners also put out for bid to lease six shares of the Sterling Irrigation Co. for the 2024 growing season. Prospective lessees must be existing shareholders of Sterling Irrigation. Sealed proposals labeled “Sterling Irrigation Company Water Shares Proposal” must be submitted to the courthouse by 5 p.m. Feb. 16. The commissioners will open the proposals during their regular meeting on Feb. 20,
