Quilts-n-creations

-

Quilts-n-creations had a very unique beginning. In 1987, the talk of a quilt store began with Leta and her mom, Dorothy. Quiltsn-creations name came from Dorothy’s love for quilting and Leta’s love for creating.

At the time Dorothy and her husband, Everett, were running Teen Acres, a group home for teenage girls, and they were also partners of the Bible Lighthouse. Leta worked as a secretary at the facility. They decided to start buying bolts of fabric, which led to having a sales rep come and show some fabric. On their way to Sterling, this sales rep talked about their own quilt shop in Loveland. They were both salesmen and wanted to travel together. On Thursday, of the same week, Leta and Dorothy went to look at that quilt shop. Plans were finalized by the end of the day and on Saturday they took a truck, pickups and a trailer and loaded them up at the quilt shop.

At this point Leta and Dorothy had only looked at a few buildings for their shop. Now they had store inventory and no building. The next week they settled on a building at 201 Ash St. It was a great location but needed a lot of work. Their family had never been afraid of work, so they started to work long, hard hours because there was a deadline to meet.

June 10, 1987, Sterling was having a centennial celebration and Quilts-n-creations wanted to be open for that event. Ten days after they purchased the quilt shop Leta and Dorothy were open for business. Shortly after opening they became a Bernina dealer and from there, they just kept growing and changing. Quiltsn-creations added custom sewing, custom quilting, and classes. Through the years, the store has employed several employees including grandkids. This helped give their grandkids a beginning job in the retail world.

Quilts-n-creations’ next adventure started when the Bible Lighthouse closed, and the building was available. This gave them a chance to have the retail part of the store all in the front area plus more storage room. They moved their store on May 31, 2014, to their current location of 125 N Second Street.

Quilts-n-creations are a Bernina sewing machine dealer and Jims Formalwear dealer. They have fabric and sewing supplies, carry Bibles and a few devotions books and boxed greeting cards. Shauna and Leta continue to do custom sewing, custom quilting, and embroidery.

Quilts-n-creations have a full class schedule for kids each summer and classes for adults through- out fall and winter by appointment only. Their Sew Creative Club is for sewing enthusiasts and they meet once a month on the third Thursday at 9:30 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. Different techniques and projects are learned each month. Imagination Club meets once a month on the first Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Their Block of the Month meets once a month for a lecture/ demo class to work on a quilt at home.

God has truly blessed them over the last 36 years. He has brought them through tough months. They are truly blessed to have their local customer base and the loyalty of their out-of-town customers. Thank You!
