Improvements to cattle tie-down area in works

Logan County staffers will be working with 4-H exhibitors to improve the cattle tie-down area north of the livestock pavilion at Logan County Fairgrounds.

Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg raised the issue Tuesday during the commissioners’ work session. Sonnenberg said he had been contacted by parents of 4-H members about the occasional muddiness of the area. He said the area is in a low spot and when it gets wet, the earth turns into mud, which makes it difficult to keep the animals clean for the show ring. Sonnenberg said the parents had volunteered to stand the cost and do the work themselves, under supervision of county personnel.

Rick Cullip, Logan County Buildings and Grounds Supervisor, said he was aware of the problem and some rehabilitation already has been done, but that he would be happy to work with members of the public who want to help. He asked whether a concrete surface would work for the cattle.

Sonnenberg told Cullip that certainly was worth discussing, and he would put the people involved in touch with Cullip.

During the regular business meeting the commissioners approved another one-year contract with Tyler Technologies, Inc., of Plano, Texas, to provide software for financial and personnel management, but only after some discussion about reliability.

County Attorney Alan Samber told the commissioners the new contract allowed up to 5 percent credit in any month that service fell below 100 percent. Sonnenberg raised the question of what happens if service falls below 95 percent. Samber said the company was adamant about sticking to the 95 percent level.

The commissioners also approved a liquor license renewal for Spurz Grill near Atwood.

County offices will be closed Feb. 19 for Presidents Day. The next meeting will be Feb. 20.
